“Galilei-Artiglio” is an IIS (i.e. “Istituto di Istruzione Superiore”, Italian Secondary Education Institute) located in Viareggio, Tuscany.
The school includes a Liceo Scientifico Opzione Scienze Applicate (Scientific Lyceum – Applied Sciences Option) and two Istituti Tecnici (an Industrial and a Nautical one).
Like all Italian lyceums, our Liceo aims at providing students with the theoretical framework and practical skills that are essential to progress to further studies at any university or higher educational institution.
Our Istituti Tecnici offer both theoretical subjects and practical lab classes in specific fields of study. Specialisations available at Technical Institute Galilei are:
- IT and telecommunications
- Electronics and electrical engineering
- Mechanics, mechatronics and energy
- Chemistry, materials and biotechnology
Nautical Institute Artiglio courses, instead, are aimed at forming maritime professionals (working both ashore and at sea), namely:
- Master mariners
- Engineer officers
- Shipbuilders
The two Technical Institutes offer also evening classes for working adults (lessons are held from 5:30 to 10:30 pm Monday through Friday). The diplomas available are Electro-Technician (Galilei) and Master Mariner (Artiglio).
All our students are also offered work experience programmes related to their field of study in selected public institutions or private companies.
Moreover, since 2013, “Galilei-Artiglio” has also been hosting the headquarters of an “Istituto Tecnico Superiore”, i.e. a post-secondary education institution (EQF Level 5), aimed at training students to be yacht captains, engineers and refitters.
Finally, on weekday afternoons, in collaboration with university professors and other scholars, “Galilei-Artiglio” often hosts seminars, workshops and other free events open not only to students but also to all interested citizens.
